Concrete & Heavy Debris across the Athens area
Concrete and other heavy material break the normal rules of dumpster sizing. A driveway, patio, or sidewalk tear-out can fill a container to a foot or two deep and already be at its weight limit — the box looks nearly empty but the truck can't safely haul it any fuller. We handle heavy-debris loads differently for exactly that reason: the right container for a concrete job is usually smaller than you'd expect, filled to a lower line, and priced around weight and density rather than the size of the box.
This service covers driveway and patio removal, sidewalk and footer demolition, broken block and brick, asphalt tear-up, and excess dirt or fill from a grading or foundation job — work we see across Athens-Clarke County's older driveways and sidewalks and the steady new-construction and remodel activity in Oconee County.
At a glance
What you get with concrete & heavy debris
- Right-sized specifically for concrete, brick, block, asphalt, and dirt — not general junk
- We advise on fill line, not just container size, so the load doesn't exceed the weight limit
- Covers driveway, patio, sidewalk, footer, and foundation-spoil removal
- Flat rate built around the weight and density of the material, not guesswork
Why concrete needs a different approach
A cubic yard of concrete weighs roughly two tons — far more than a cubic yard of household junk. That means a 10 or 15-yard container, loaded only partway, can already be at the weight limit a standard roll-off truck can legally and safely haul. Order a 20 or 30-yard box expecting to fill it with concrete and you'll typically be told to stop loading well before it looks full. We'd rather tell you that up front and get you the right size than have a load turned back or hit with an overweight charge at the scale.
What counts as heavy debris
Concrete, brick, block, stone, asphalt, and dirt or fill dirt from excavation all fall in this category. Mixed C&D debris — wood, drywall, shingles — with a little bit of concrete in it doesn't necessarily need this service; that's usually fine as a standard construction dumpster. It's loads that are mostly or entirely dense material — a full driveway tear-out, a footer excavation, a load of clean fill dirt — where sizing it as heavy debris from the start saves a second trip.
New construction, remodels, and everyday concrete work
Oconee County — Watkinsville, Bogart, Bishop — has some of the fastest new-construction and remodel activity in the region right now, and that means a steady stream of footer spoil, old foundation removal, and driveway work. In Athens itself, a lot of the concrete work we see is replacing cracked or heaved driveways, walkways, and patios on older in-town lots. Either way, tell us the material and roughly how much of it there is and we'll size the container and set expectations on fill line before we deliver.
Suitability
Is concrete & heavy debris the right call?
The fastest way to get this right is to check the load against both lists before you book.
Good fits for this container
- Driveway, patio, sidewalk, or footer concrete removal
- Broken brick, block, or stone from a teardown or renovation
- Asphalt tear-up
- Excess dirt or fill from grading, excavation, or a foundation job
Send these somewhere else
- Mostly-light construction debris with only a little concrete mixed in — a standard construction dumpster usually fits better
- Loads mixed with household trash, hazardous material, or wet paint
- Expecting a large box to be filled all the way — weight limits apply well before it looks full
Concrete & Heavy Debris — the Athens-area specifics
Athens-Clarke County's older neighborhoods have plenty of aging driveways, walkways, and patios that eventually crack, heave, or need full replacement, and that's steady work for a dedicated concrete container on an in-town lot. Out in Oconee County — Watkinsville, Bogart, and Bishop especially — new-construction and remodel activity generates a lot of footer spoil and old foundation removal, and those job sites often have room for a larger container even though we'll still keep the fill line conservative given the weight. Either way, tell us the material and rough volume up front so the container that shows up is actually the right one.

Answers
Concrete & Heavy Debris — your questions answered
Can I fill the dumpster all the way with concrete?
Almost never with a full-size box. Concrete is heavy enough that a container is usually at its safe weight limit well before it looks full — often just a foot or two deep. We'll tell you the right fill line for your container when we deliver so you don't overload it.
What size dumpster do I need for a driveway tear-out?
It depends on the square footage and thickness of the driveway more than anything else — call with those numbers and we'll size it correctly. A smaller container filled to the right line is usually the right call rather than a large one you can't fill anyway.
Can I mix concrete with regular construction debris in the same dumpster?
A little bit of concrete in an otherwise normal construction load is usually fine as a standard dumpster. If the load is mostly concrete, brick, block, or dirt, it needs to be sized and priced as heavy debris from the start — tell us the mix when you book.
Do you take clean fill dirt from an excavation or grading job?
Yes, dirt and fill are handled the same way as concrete for sizing purposes — it's heavy, so the container is sized around weight rather than volume. Let us know roughly how much dirt is coming out and we'll get you the right box.
