The 20 yard container in Athens, GA
The 20 yard is the container we get asked for by name more than any other, and for good reason — it covers the widest range of jobs without forcing you to guess too carefully. A whole-room addition, a full roof replacement, a general renovation with mixed debris, or a garage-to-attic whole-house cleanout all tend to land comfortably inside this size.
It's the default we point toward for the steady remodel and light construction work coming out of Watkinsville and the rest of Oconee County, where new-build and renovation activity is some of the fastest-growing in the region, as well as for general contractor jobs closer to home in Athens-Clarke County itself.
Dimensions and What Actually Fits
The 20 yard measures about 22 feet long, 7.5 feet wide, and 4.5 feet high — the same length as our 30 and 40 yard containers but with lower sidewalls, which makes it easier to load bulky items by hand while still holding real weight. It carries roughly 110 to 130 kitchen-size trash bags' worth of material, or about 3 to 4 tons, which is enough headroom for most residential renovation and roofing jobs without the footprint of our largest containers.
Who This Size Is Built For
This is the size for a general home renovation with mixed debris, a full roof tear-off on an average or larger roof, a whole-house cleanout, or a mid-size remodel where you're pulling out flooring, drywall, and old fixtures at the same time. It's also a common choice for licensed contractors running multiple small punch-list jobs off one container over a rental period, since it's large enough to absorb debris from more than one room without filling up on the first day.
Capacity
What actually fits in a 20 yard container
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what stops most loads.
| Material | How much fits |
|---|---|
| General home renovation, mixed debris | Handles drywall, flooring, fixtures, and framing scraps from a multi-room project |
| Full roof tear-off, larger or two-layer roofs | Fits shingles and underlayment from most standard to larger residential roofs |
| Whole-house cleanout | Handles furniture, appliances, and belongings from an entire average-size home |
| Flooring replacement, whole home | Fits carpet, padding, and subflooring pulled from multiple rooms |
| Small addition or garage build-out framing scraps | Handles the lumber and material waste from a modest addition project |

Placing a 20 yard container on a Athens-area property
This is the size doing the most work for the remodel and new-construction boom around Watkinsville, Bogart, and the rest of Oconee County, and it's also our standard recommendation for general contractors working renovation jobs anywhere in Athens-Clarke County. If you're not sure whether your project needs a 15 or a 20, describe the scope to us when you call — this is the size that gets it right for most callers on the first guess.

20 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Why is the 20 yard your most popular size?
It's the middle ground — big enough for a full renovation, a whole roof, or a whole-house cleanout, but still practical to place on most residential lots. Most callers who aren't sure what size they need end up here.
Will a 20 yard dumpster fit on my driveway?
At about 22 feet long, it needs a bit more clearance than our 10 or 15 yard containers. Most standard driveways handle it fine, but tell us about any tight turns, low tree limbs, or short driveways when you call so we can confirm.
How much weight can a 20 yard dumpster hold?
Roughly 3 to 4 tons. That covers most roofing and renovation debris comfortably, but heavy loads of concrete, dirt, or brick can hit that weight limit fast — ask us about our Concrete & Heavy Debris container if that's most of your load.
Is a 20 yard the right size for a whole-house cleanout?
For most average-size Athens-area homes, yes. If the home is unusually large or has a full basement and attic of accumulated items, mention that when you call and we can talk about whether a 30 yard makes more sense.
